Gamemon Universal Usb Converter Software
Amazon. com Customer reviews UNIVERSAL USB CONVERTERI picked up this little item at Wal Mart around four years ago, and it has easily re paid its self many times over. This is a niche interest item which will appeal primarily to videogame emulation enthusiasts first and foremost, but can also be useful to budget gamers, and people who like to use their favorite console gamepads with their PC games. It also has several notable advantages over comparable converters that potential customers should be aware of. For starters, a lot has been done from a design standpoint to maximize this converters usefulness, and it offers a wide array of convenience features that people who have looked at similar converters will appreciate right away. It has a PSXPS2 gamepad port, along with Gamecube, and X Box gamepad ports, an integrated two port USB 2. When console gamepad converters were first introduced, and the technology was still immature, many comparable converters didnt support these other peripherals unless they specifically said so on the packaging which was always in fine print, so you had to look carefully, and some currently available converters still suffer from that restriction. Similar Mayflash converters for example are rumored to not support simultaneous use, or rumble for ANY console gamepad, and this converter does. Ive never used a Mayflash converter, and cant verify that this is true, but if it is, that can be a deal breaker for a lot of would be buyers, especially those purchasing specifically for emulation. Of greater concern is that there is no shortage of still available converters that are discontinued, or made by companies who have gone out of business, and dont have updated drivers available this can be a big problem since Windows Vista and Windows 7 will not accept drivers which are not digitally signed, many of these converters were designed with Win XP in mind, and Win XP did not require driver signing. This makes any converter which was designed for Windows XP incompatible unless the manufacturer is still in business, and providing ongoing support via updated drivers. No such worries here Futime is still in business, and providing ongoing support. Another nice feature of this converter is that Ive looked at other converters which feature multiple console gamepad ports, but dont allow simultaneous use. This converter suffers from no such restriction, and that lends it broader appeal. Gamemon Windows Drivers. Up/day_121220/201212201121008596.jpg' alt='Gamemon Universal Usb Converter Software' title='Gamemon Universal Usb Converter Software' />This can be very convenient because many newer PC games and most Games for Windows branded games especially will default to keyboardmouse controls if more than one gamepad is connected and yes unless the port is disabled, the computer WILL read unused controller ports as active controllers regardless of whether there is a controller actually connected or not. This feature allows you to essentially downgrade the converter to a basic USB hub. Instead of having to constantly switch a USB gamepad from the converter to the computer, you can simply limit the number of gamepads the game can detect by disabling the console gamepad ports not in use. The integrated USB hub is a nice bonus which has allowed me to replace a dedicated USB hub given that it allows this converter to serve double duty. This is yet another stand out convenience feature not common to comparable converters, and reflects a smart, and well thought out design which is clearly intended to maximize its usefulness. It is worth noting that this converter does NOT support pressure sensitive buttons. If you bought it to use with emulators, this can become a problem when playing games that require pressure sensitive buttons like Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 on PCSX2, or Super Mario Sunshine on Dolphin for example. Please be aware however that this is a Windows issue, and not a product defect, or driver issue. This converter CANNOT support this feature because Direct. Kon Boot For Windows 8 on this page. X doesnt support it. There are utilities that can be used to get pressure sensitive buttons working or simulate the function, but all the utilities I looked at required some fairly in depth manual configuration, and seemed very complicated. For more than any other reason, I like this item because its a great emulation tool. Playing your emulated games with the games original native gamepad can lend the emulation that extra bit of authenticity which makes the games more enjoyable, and easier to play. Aside even from that, high end PC gamepads can be pricey cordless versions especially, so this converter can also be useful to budget gamers by offering an inexpensive alternative. Unfortunately, a few of its drawbacks are that it can be difficult to find since it is a discontinued item, its only available sporadically here on amazon, and marketplace sellers tend to ask more than the suggested retail price ten dollars when its in stock. I didnt get a chance to experiment with any games using the X Box gamepad since I dont have any games I prefer to play using one that arent natively compatible with the X Box 3. Windows, and didnt notice any quirks, or strange behavior using a Gamecube gamepad with it. But I did bump into an odd quirk using a PS2 controller playing Crash Team Racing, and Spiderman 2 Enter Electro on e. PSXe 1. 7, the shoulder buttons behaved as if being pressed repeatedly instead of being held down. Playing the same games using a PC USB gamepad connected to the converter, this behavior disappeared immediately, leading me to suspect a driver issue with the converter. This proved to be an issue with the outdated retail driver included on the disk, and Futime has recently resolved it with their updated v. Vista and Win 7 including x. This is Futimes second driver update for this converter, and it was slow arriving, but comes as good news for existing owners because it shows that we can count on them to provide a reasonable period of after sale support. In the end, the only real gripe I can lodge against this converter is that the cord is a little short, so you may need an extension cable in some situations. Overall, theres a lot to like about this converter. It sports an array of highly useful features that many comparable converters lack, despite being yet another made in China product, it seems well made, so I woudnt imagine durability being a problem mine still works fine despite being nearly five years old now, its well supported with periodic driver updates, supports current operating systems, and is usually very affordably priced, so I have no regrets about buying it, or qualms about recommending it. I have looked at, and nearly purchased comparable gamepad converters before, and never seen one that is more feature rich, or that can serve double duty as a USB hub, which makes it a terrific two for one purchase. Its a shame its been discontinued, and most marketplace sellers ask more than the manufacturers suggested retail price when its in stock here on amazon, but despite having become hard to find, for gamers who like to use their favorite console gamepads with their PC games in general, and fans of PSXPS2, and Gamecube emulation in particular, the advantages it offers over other converters makes it well worth the effort of tracking one down.
